Warning Signs You Need a Driveway Drainage Solution
When water collects near the bottom of a driveway or garage entrance, it can seep under the garage door, saturate soil near the foundation, and eventually contribute to basement or structural moisture problems.
A driveway drain is installed at the point where runoff collects most heavily, usually near the bottom of a sloped driveway or in front of a garage. It captures surface water and directs it into an underground discharge line so it can be carried away from your home instead of pooling near the foundation, garage door, or basement entry points.
If you are seeing any of the following signs, you probably need a driveway drainage system:
- Standing water pools on your driveway after rain
- Water runs across the driveway and toward the house
- The garage floor is wet after storms
- Soil near the foundation is consistently saturated
- There is erosion along the edges of your driveway
- Water enters the basement through the garage or the floor joint

Driveway Drain Integrations We Offer in Pittsburgh
Some properties benefit from a trench or channel-style drain installed across the driveway to intercept runoff before it reaches the garage, while others need a broader drainage approach based on the slope, surface, and where the water is collecting.
A driveway drain also needs a proper discharge path, so collected water is carried through an underground line away from the driveway, garage, and foundation. That is why we integrate driveway drains with the following:
Downspouts
Downspouts that discharge near the driveway can add a large amount of runoff during storms. We can route those downspouts into underground drainage lines that connect to the driveway drain system, helping reduce surface water before it reaches the garage or foundation.
Full Yard Drainage System
A driveway drain on its own may be enough when water is collecting in one isolated low spot. But if runoff is also coming from downspouts, hillside drainage, or saturated yard areas, the system may need to tie into larger yard drainage to move water fully away from the home.
Process
Our Process
Property Evaluation
We assess how water moves across your driveway, garage, and surrounding yard, noting slope direction, soil conditions, existing downspouts, and visible erosion or entry points.
A Custom Driveway Drainage System
Based on what we find, we recommend the right drain type, placement, and discharge path for your property.
If the problem is being caused by the way the driveway slopes toward the home, we account for that in the design and determine whether drainage collection alone is enough or whether additional grading or drainage adjustments are needed.
Installation
We carefully cut and remove the necessary section of pavement, excavate for the drain and underground piping, and install the system at the proper slope for reliable water flow. This allows us to intercept runoff before it can collect near the garage door, foundation, or other areas where water can seep inside.
We then connect the drain to the discharge line so water is directed away from the driveway and away from the home.
Backfill & Final Inspection
Once the drain is connected, we backfill the area, restore the surface, and make sure the finished installation fits cleanly with your driveway. We then verify water flow and confirm the system is draining properly.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
How long does it take to install a driveway drainage system?
Most installations are completed in 1 to 3 days, depending on the scope of work and whether additional drainage connections are needed.
Will my driveway be torn up?
We cut and remove only what is necessary and restore the surface after the drain is set. We work to keep disruption to your driveway and yard to a minimum.
Do driveway drains need maintenance?
Periodic clearing of debris from the drain grate keeps the system working properly. We walk you through what to check after installation.
Can a driveway drain help with my wet basement?
Yes. If water is pooling near the garage or foundation and finding its way inside, a driveway drain removes it before it gets that far. We often combine driveway drains with interior drainage or yard drainage systems for complete moisture control.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer 0% financing for 12 months to qualified buyers. The lender determines terms and conditions.
